THIS IS HOW IT STARTS

I'm not a big fan of reality TV (The two terms are complete oxymorons in my opinion). That is why it is so odd that I have found an interest in THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF VANCOUVER.

My wife and daughter were watching episodes on the computer this weekend and I started watching along with them. What drew me in? Sure I used to live in Vancouver but honestly the Vancouver I lived in was not the same Vancouver in this show. The locations are the same but they are different worlds. So what was it?

I was curious enough to watch one but why did I have to get on board for the rest (there have been four episodes so far)? I couldn't tell you.

All I know is that I am fascinated by these women and their drama and the city in which they live and play, which is so much the same and yet so different from the city in which I used to live.

I guess this is my guilty pleasure.

*On a personal, health-type note: It was just a bad flu. I have been on broad spectrum antibiotics all week and the pills are as big as jelly beans. I have recovered fully except for some vestigial weakness. I managed to go out to dinner Friday and go for two walks this weekend and I am back to work this fine Monday morning.

I've been here and there. I've drawn a lot of pictures. I've written a bit, too. I'm not good at this self-promotion thing. Look, you want to know about me? just visit these websites. Okay?

Glad to hear that you are back on your feet. Don't be ashamed. I can't get enough of these 'Real' Housewives' shows myself.

I love in a much smaller town that Vancover, but had our show also. It was Laguna Beach. A big hit (I guess for a few seasons). Even though it's a MUCH smaller area, it didn't relate to life as I knew it. I watched it a couple of times to see the places I recognized, but even that couldn't make me continue to watch that swill...

I'm glad you're over the flu. :)

I'm sorry you were sick.

I'm not sure about this housewife show; or the fascination people have with housewives. I think it's sort of...sick. Ha. (Not you sick for watching it, or anyone watching it; I understand the concept of guilty pleasures; but sick, because of the women who star in the show in the first place.) Because aren't a lot of these women really bad moms?? That's the idea I get from it. That they're so self-involved, and irresponsible...it would just make me uncomfortable to watch. Like those pageant mom shows. I used to watch, because I liked seeing the little girls in pageants (I grew up doing pageants) but the moms were so horrible at actual parenting, I couldn't stand it any more. Like one mom giving her toddler energy drinks and pixie sticks, instead of water and fruit or actual food.

It's so unlike me to watch a show like that. I think I've got it out of my system. I have no desire to watch any more of it. I suppose that no matter where you go you can find these "housewives" and that's part of the startup cost is combing the city and finding these specific types of self-centered, self-involved women of a certain socio-economic status.

And, yeah a lot of them are bad moms (although they'll look at the camera and profess how great their parenting skills are and how much they care).

As for the pageant mom shows, I just can't bring myself to watch them because of the reasons you just outlined, Ginger.
