BUSY, BUSY, BUSY YEAR!

It's been a busy year but I don't have much to show for it at the moment. I've done a lot but nothing that I can share here except for the above which is artwork for a book by Joel Jenkins called ONE FOOT IN MY GRAVE which will be available in 2013. It was a departure for me because it was not a fantasy or science fiction book but a biography.

I've also done some SF and fantasy covers and in 2013 which I hope to be able to share with you soon, as well as an amazing wraparound cover which is as exciting as all hell and which is just starting to come together now.

I will also be doing the covers for a four-book series which I am SUPER excited about!

I also have a number of projects, some secret, some not-so secret (like the fact that I will be blogging for the brand new AMAZING STORIES website) and my alter-ego, Jack Mackenzie's second book, DEBT's PLEDGE which will be available in 2013.

Jack Mackenzie will also have some more KA SIRTAGO AND POET books available for Kindle and other e-reading devices and hopefully a print version as well.

So to all you who have stuck with me during these long and fulsome tirades about myself, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You guys are all fantastic and I wish you all the best in 2013.

And have some swell New Years celebratin' along the way!

I've been here and there. I've drawn a lot of pictures. I've written a bit, too. I'm not good at this self-promotion thing. Look, you want to know about me? just visit these websites. Okay?

DID YOU GET A KINDLE FOR CHRISTMAS?

Did you buy a Kobo on Boxing Day? Did you recently get an e-reader either as a gift or at a bargain price?

If so, may I make a few humble suggestions?

The Mask of Eternity and The Green Beast are both available for Kindle.

Or check out the Rage Machine Bookstore page where you can find other titles by Jack Mackenzie and other terrific writers!

Exciting fiction available at Boxing Day prices!

FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK

There aren't many Christmas songs that include lyrics like: "You scumbag. You maggot. You cheap, lousy faggot." Yet FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK by the Pogues and Kirsty McColl, still manages to have a haunting, lyrical quality.

So, given what has been visited on New York (and other areas of the U.S.) this year, I think this bittersweet Christmas song is an appropriate choice.

Merry Christmas everyone. Stay warm.

HAPPY YULETIDE

Image pitilessly plundered from http://norsevikingqueen.tumblr.com

Greetings to all. I hope you are well. I hope you are all enjoying the traditional Yuletide celebrations including much merrymaking, fighting, drinking of ale and feasting on the meats of the animals that you sacrificed to Odin.

Oh... is that too traditional?

Well, whatever tradition you follow I hope this time finds you content and I wish you all happiness and joy.

I'LL SAY IT AGAIN... I'M OFFICIALLY AN AMAZING BLOGGER

I'm repeating this post because I'm not sure it's coming up in people's dashboards. That plus I'm just so Goddamned chuffed about it...

On Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013, I will be joined by more than 50 other writers from around the blogosphere to help launch the Beta Test of Phase 1 of the return of Amazing Stories.

Amazing Stories was the world's first science fiction magazine. Published by Hugo Gernsback, the Father of Science Fiction, the magazine created the genre's first home and was instrumental in helping to establish science fiction fandom – the fandom from which all other fandoms have evolved.

The magazine itself ceased publication in 2005; in 2008 the new publisher, Steve Davidson, discovered that the trademarks had lapsed and applied for them. The marks were finally granted in 2011.

Phase 1 introduces the social networking aspects of the site and the Blog Team, more than 50 authors, artists, collectors, editors, pod casters, designers and bloggers who will address 14 different subjects on a regular basis – SF, Fantasy & Horror literature, anime, gaming, film, television, the visual arts, audio works, the pulps, comics, fandom, science and publishing
.

I can't tell you how excited I am to be part of this blog team. It is a great bunch of bloggers. Some of them are old friends and some of them are new, but it's a great group and I am proud to be a part of it.

I will be blogging about art, of course (among other things). I will be writing about the visual language of science fiction and fantasy. As the time grows closer I will be able to tell you more and provide links and hints as to what you will see. It's going to be exciting!

It's not going to change what happens here. i will still post pictures and videos and goofy stuff here and there. It's not going to change my life, either. It's not gonna make me rich and it's certainly not going to help me with the blocked bathroom sink that's looking more and more like it needs a plumber, nor will it help me keep the cats' litter box full nor help keep it clean.

Nevertheless, it's a great opportunity and I'm going to try to keep it light and fun. More importantly I hope that all of you will join me in January when all the fun begins.

Those wishing to participate in the Beta Test should request an invite by emailing the publisher, Steve Davidson.

End of announcement. We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog program.

AND FOR THOSE WHO DON'T CARE...

Haddon Sundblom was most famous for his Santa Claus paintings done for the Coca Cola Company. But he could also do a decent Christmas pin-up when the need arose like this one he painted for Playboy in 1972.

So here it is for all of you who don't care about the impending Mayan Apocalypse (snicker), or the fact that I am going to be blogging for Amazing Stories Magazine, or even that Christmas is coming up.

This is for those who are just looking for something to look at.

ANNOUNCEMENT POSTPONED!

I made a quick announcement this morning then was told that I would have to wait for Friday for the official release! So I had to yank the announcement.

Bother!

So, though at least two of you already know what's going on, for the rest of you, on Friday I will have an official announcement (I hope).

Until then... uh... here's some music.

INTO DARKNESS

I don't know why I've been grousing about this. I know I'm going to go see it anyway. Probably more than once, just like the last one.

I have a big announcement to make on Wednesday, by the way. It's not earth shattering, but it is amazing and I'm pretty excited about it. I've been keeping it under my hat for a month now so I'm looking forward to being able to tell you about it.

NOW THAT'S A CHRISTMAS PRESSIE!

Our office Secret Santa gift exchange happened today. Imagine my (very pleasant) surprise when I unwrapped my gift.

Donald Trump may be boycotting it, but that just leaves all the more Glenfiddich for the rest of us good Scotsmen.

Bless your heart, Secret Santa!

IS HE KAHN? GARY MITCHELL? NO, HE'S...

So benedict Cumberbatch is playing John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness.

This is crewman Harrison from Star Trek: The Original series.

Coincidence? I think not.

THE DARK TREK RISES

Okay, you know, I love Star Trek. Honestly... I really love Star Trek... especially the original series Star Trek.

I liked the last movie. I didn't want to, but I did. I wanted to like the sequel as well but...

What the hell is this?

EIGHTY YEARS AGO...

Image shamelessly swiped from Al Harron's The Blog that time Forgot
In December of 1932, Farnsworth Wright, the editor of the pulp fiction magazine Weird Tales ran a story by a virtually unknown West Texas writer named Robert E. Howard called “The Phoenix On The Sword.”

It featured a newly created hero called Conan of Cimmeria
