WHERE IS ALL THE SPACE OPERA?

Recently Charlie Jane Anders at i09 wrote an editorial/rant about the dearth of Space Opera in the latest film and television projects.

Anyone who know this blog knows I love Space Opera. So when I read this I could not have agreed more with its sentiments. To that end I am reproducing the entire article:

All I can say is: "Hear! Hear!"

I've been here and there. I've drawn a lot of pictures. I've written a bit, too. I'm not good at this self-promotion thing. Look, you want to know about me? just visit these websites. Okay?

Thanks for sharing this article, Mike. It's very interesting how Space Opera has fallen out of favour in these cynical times. I'm glad to see Alastair Reynolds getting a mention. Wouldn't it be nice ( as Brian Wilson once said... ) to see a big screen adaptation of one of Reynolds's or Iain M. Banks's Space Opera novels?

That would be amazing, but I'd even settle for a film version of David Weber's or Jack Campbell's books. Hell I'd even settle for Horatio Hornblower in space (oh, wait, we've already had that). A HALO or MASS EFFECT film adaptation would be okay too. Hell, at this point I'll even take a SPACE:1999 reboot -- I just want to see spaceships and aliens!
