I GET THE BLUES

I was trying to explain to my daughter last night why I love the music of Robert Johnson when I had an epiphany: Like a lot of middle age white guys (yes, I am aware of the irony) I love the blues.

Robert Johnson, Son House, Dave "Honeyboy" Edwards (whom I was fortunate enough to see in concert the year before he died), these were legendary blues musicians whose influence on modern music is immeasurable.

Something else that I realized is that I listen to the blues when I'm feeling blue and it makes me feel better. On the surface that doesn't make much sense, but I realized just last night why that is. Blues music takes all that pain and anguish, the sadness and hardship, and gives it somewhere to go. It's like the music channels all of those feelings out of you while you're listening.

Maybe that doesn't make any sense, (or perhaps it is my poor attempts to explain it), but it feels right to me.

I've been here and there. I've drawn a lot of pictures. I've written a bit, too. I'm not good at this self-promotion thing. Look, you want to know about me? just visit these websites. Okay?
